CC 1 The Ice Breaker 4 - 6 min
Introduce yourself to your fellow club members and give them some information about your background, interests and ambitions.
To begin speaking before an audience.
Discover speaking skills you already have
Hint: Give us one or two memorable stories, instead of 10 different facts about yourself. It's not too early to learn to 'focus' in your speech.
CC 2 Organize Your Speech 5 - 7 min
Take the time to put your ideas together in an orderly manner. Intro should catch audience's attention; body must support the idea, conclusion should reinforce the idea and make it memorable
Select an appropriate outline which allows listeners to easily follow and understand your speech.
Use supporting material to contribute to your message.
Hint: Give more vivid details and example of one major point (make it into 3 sub points), rather than 3 major points for the theme. A stronger focus helps to draw in the audience's attention
CC 3 Get to the Point 5 - 7 min
Establish your general and specific purpose immediately
Select a topic, determine its purposes and organize it (beginning, body, conclusion)
Project sincerity and control any nervousness
Hint: In the intro, immediately tell us the point and supporting points, then tell us the supporting points clearly, and then conclude by summarizing the supporting points. Keep it simple, and repeat your key points and messages. Try to think from the audiences' point of view
CC 4 How to Say It 5 - 7 min
words convey your message and influence the audience's perception. Work on the word choice and arrangements, so they are clear and accurate, vividly descriptive and brief.
Select the right words and sentence structure to communicate your ideas clearly, accurately and vividly.
Use rhetorical devices to enhance and emphasize ideas.
Hint: Don't go overboard with unusual words and phrases. Always stick with common daily language. You can make it vivid by adding details, doing comparisons, focusing on our 5-senses to see your point of view
CC 5 Your Body Speaks 5 - 7 min
Use stance, movement, gestures, facial expressions and eye contact to express your message
Hint: Read the 'Body Language' booklet from your New Membership Kit. Focus on the 'basic gestures' that describe size, shape, direction, time. Formulate your content and words to allow you to deliver the gestures. Again, if you can do it to emphasize your key points and messages, the better
CC 6 Vocal Variety 5 - 7 min
Use voice volume, pitch, rate and quality to reflect and add interest to your message.
Use pauses to enhance your message.
Hint: Read the 'vocal variety' booklet from your New Membership Kit. Focus on how to add vocal variety on your key message or key points.
CC 7 Research Your Topic 5 - 7 min
Collect information about your topic from numerous sources.
Support your points with facts, examples and illustrations
Hint: One of the tougher speeches of the manual. An informative speech works the best: Allows you to find facts and data to educate the audience. Persuasive speech can also work, but not as easy. You can find statistics to pull the audience to your point of view. When stating a fact or statistic, tell the audience who/what gave that data to build the credibility of the data.
CC 8 Visual Aids 5 - 7 min
Select and use visual aids appropriate for your message
Hint: You don't need to use PPT! And only use visual aid if it is useful to make your message come alive. Not all visual aid is useful. If something is difficult to describe, you need a visual aid. If something is very conceptual, then a visual aid as a metaphor will work.
CC 9 Persuade with Power 5 - 7 min
Persuade listeners to adopt your ideas or to take some action.
Hint: Eye-contact is key. Try to speak to one, and let the rest of the audience feel it. And strategically pick the audience to focus on. This is one project where you have to pull together what you learned from CC4 - CC8. Everything from the words you use, to the tone of your voice, your body language and hand gestures, how you introduce external data or anecdotes, and to the effective use of visual aid--all can help persuade the audience to your point of view.
CC 10 Inspire Your Audience 8 - 10 min
To inspire the audience by appealing to noble motives and challenging the audience to achieve a higher level of beliefs or achievement.
Hint: At this point, you don't need any more hints….Except one: Take your time to think of a meaningful message that rings with the audience. This is the one speech that they will remember, and that you will cherish, as it marks your first graduation.
